Conversation 2

Our identity makes us a family of servant missionaries.

  • “Who do we serve?”

  • “Who are we missionaries to?”

  • “How will we engage them together?”

These are all questions of mission. Answer these today in your conversation together.

⚙️ Supplies needed: Find a large whiteboard, poster-board, or even a large piece of cardboard to write on. Grab enough markers for everyone.

Today’s Conversation

Names + Faces

💡 Bottom Line

Everyone in the GC will write down their 2-3 names + faces, describing who they are, how we know them, and their openness to God or the Gospel.

📌 Think of your Names + Faces

TIP: Recall who God has brought to your mind since you began praying and asking Him to show you names + faces to engage with the Gospel. (The take-home guided this.)

🖍️ Write them Down

TIP: As they write, ask them to write 1-2 words of how they know them, what they know of their story, and any faith or spiritual openness.

🙋 Ask a Question

TIP: In just a couple minutes, can you tell me how you came to know them and what you know of their story?

💬 Discuss Together

TIP: Allow everyone in the group to share their names + faces, how they know them and what they know about their story.

⏭️ Next, we will try to connect the dots.

In a Picture

God has placed us in these peoples’ lives and placed them on our hearts.

  • Mission is right here

  • We just wrote down our mission

  • Now how can we engage them together?

Connect the Dots

💡 Bottom Line

GC’s exist for and because of the Gospel. As a group, we can multiply our gospel influence on the people we know and pray for in our neighborhoods, workplaces, and natural relationships.

📌 Think of our Names + Faces

TIP: These are now our names + faces. Take in the stories we have just heard, what these people value, share, struggle with, or enjoy.

🙋 Ask a Question

TIP: Can we already see connections between ourselves and these names + faces? Or can we see themes in the people we want to influence?

🖍️ Write them Down

TIP: Write down notes as you discuss — record connections, ideas to engage more, and large themes you all are noticing.

🧱 Unclear? Make it concrete

TIP: Share a concrete example like “If you know your name + face through your kid’s sport team, and we like sports…that’s a possible connection! We could all meet at a park one day to play, or we could go to their team’s next game to cheer them on.” This could apply to anything else, like favorite teams or hobbies, working out or going for hikes, cooking out and swimming, etc.

🎣 Struggling? Don’t be afraid to fish

TIP: If you heard a few possible connections (interest in sports, workout at gym, kids in activities), highlight those and ask if there any cross-overs: Does anyone else have this interest? Does anyone else have a way we could connect there?

Pause to Discuss

  • What are we learning as we do this? What has God shown us as we’ve prayed individually for names + faces? What is He showing us in this conversation together?

  • What do we need to do right now? What simple actions or changes can we start making right away?

  • How can we plan to increase our connection and influence? What bigger changes will we need to make over time? How can we start planning for those now?

What would our GC look like, feel like, or sound like if we really focused on engaging these names + faces?

Commitment

💡 Bottom Line

In a Gospel Community, we practice our identity as God’s family of servant missionaries. Practice means we put intentional effort in with patience for results: we will try and do, fail and improve, together.

🫱🏻‍🫲🏾 Let’s commit to:

  1. Think of ourselves as everyday missionaries who will reach these people together

  2. Pray together weekly for God’s Spirit to work in us and in these names + faces

  3. Be creative and open about how we can connect and engage with them together

📜 Read Together: 1 Corinthians 3:5-9

🙏 Pray Together: seal the commitment

Take Home

  • Assign a task to one person that will serve the whole group

  • Transfer the names + faces to a doc that can be shared to the group

  • Consider saving the handwritten notes somewhere that you can reference them often

Include the Kids!

⚙️ Suggested tools: paper or a paper roll; board or whiteboard; crayons or markers

🫱🏻‍🫲🏾 How to help: older kids help younger kids; all GC members can help too — the more involved, the better! GC members can share their names + faces.

What about…if kids give “bad answers”? Affirm the good, adjust what’s wrong, add what’s missing.

💡 Bottom Line

We’ve learned that the Gospel is how God offers to save every man, woman, and child through Jesus.

When we believe the Gospel, He saves us and shows us how to live like Him. We want to share that with others, but the question is who?

Today, we’re going to find out who.

🖍️ Draw their Names + Faces

TIP: Who has some friends you see often?

  • If kids cannot write, a partner or helper can write the names they say aloud.

TIP: Where do you know them from?

  • Parents or others can help clarify where they know them from.

🙋 Ask a Question

TIP: With all these names and friends, how does God want them to hear about the Gospel?

🖍️ Draw a Circle in the Middle

TIP: Us! God wants you to share the Gospel with them. And God put us together in our GC to share the Gospel with them. We can help!

ABLE TO DISCUSS MORE? Talk specifically about how we as a GC can we do that together. Show the kids the names + faces you work on together. Further include them in creating ideas for connections!

🙏 Pray together

TIP: Let’s pray together…
