ID Qโs (Identity Questions)
Do you wonder what you should get from reading Scripture?
Hereโs how to read Scripture in light of a Gospel Identity.
Conversations to consider:
Conversation #1
The ID Qโs
๐ก Bottom Line
If we know who God is, we know who we are. Who He is and what He has done defines who we are.
๐ก Explain the Basics of Identity
Identity asks โwho am I?โ
A Christianโs identity asks that differently
Our identity starts with โwho is God?โ
If we know who God is and what He has done, then we will know who we are
๐ The ID Qโs
Who is God?
What has He done?
Who does that make us to be?
How do we live in response?
๐ฌ Discuss
How does this relate to the Identity Triangle?
How does this relate to the Gospel itself?
How can I imagine using these questions this week?
Who He is โ> makes us โ> who we are.
Conversation #2
Gospel Application
๐ก Bottom Line
The Gospel gives a clear example of who God is and what He has done to shape who we are and how we live in response.
๐ Read Together
REFERENCE: Romans 1:16-17, 18-22; 3:23; 5:8-9; 6:23; 8:9-11
๐ Ask the 4 ID Questions
Based on what weโve just read:
Who is God? (How is He described, what is He shown to be like)
What does He do? (What actions does He take, why does He take them; what does He say)
Who does that make us to be? (What must be true of us or for us in light of this)
How can we live in response? (What can/must I do differently based on this, how can I reflect or show this truth to others)
๐ฌ Explain
In these Romans texts, we can see a few things:
God saves us from the penalty of sin, His wrath and our guilt and shame
God is saving us from the power of sin today so that we can bring Him glory in all things now
God will save us from the presence of sin forevermore when we join in the presence of King Jesus
โญ๏ธ Is there anything more to respond to in these truths?
Conversation #3
Practice with an OT Text
๐ก Bottom Line
The ID Qโs can be applied to reading OT texts of Scripture.
๐ Ask a Question: who can recall the 4 ID Qโs?
TIP: You could invite the whole group to first write down the 4 ID Qโs on their own, then to share them out loud together.
๐ Read Genesis 2
TIP: You could have each member of the group read 3-5 verses aloud, or you could have everyone read quietly on their own, before discussing together.
๐ฌ Discuss
