ID Q’s (Identity Questions)

Do you wonder what you should get from reading Scripture?

Here’s how to read Scripture in light of a Gospel Identity.

Conversations to consider:

Conversation #1
The ID Q’s

💡 Bottom Line

If we know who God is, we know who we are. Who He is and what He has done defines who we are.

💡 Explain the Basics of Identity

  • Identity asks “who am I?”

  • A Christian’s identity asks that differently

  • Our identity starts with “who is God?”

  • If we know who God is and what He has done, then we will know who we are

🔑 The ID Q’s

  • Who is God?

  • What has He done?

  • Who does that make us to be?

  • How do we live in response?

💬 Discuss

  1. How does this relate to the Identity Triangle?

  2. How does this relate to the Gospel itself?

  3. How can I imagine using these questions this week?

Who He is —> makes us —> who we are.

Conversation #2
Gospel Application

💡 Bottom Line

The Gospel gives a clear example of who God is and what He has done to shape who we are and how we live in response.

📜 Read Together

REFERENCE: Romans 1:16-17, 18-22; 3:23; 5:8-9; 6:23; 8:9-11

🙋 Ask the 4 ID Questions

Based on what we’ve just read:

  • Who is God? (How is He described, what is He shown to be like)

  • What does He do? (What actions does He take, why does He take them; what does He say)

  • Who does that make us to be? (What must be true of us or for us in light of this)

  • How can we live in response? (What can/must I do differently based on this, how can I reflect or show this truth to others)

💬 Explain

In these Romans texts, we can see a few things:

  • God saves us from the penalty of sin, His wrath and our guilt and shame

  • God is saving us from the power of sin today so that we can bring Him glory in all things now

  • God will save us from the presence of sin forevermore when we join in the presence of King Jesus

⏭️ Is there anything more to respond to in these truths?

📜 Read Genesis 2

TIP: You could have each member of the group read 3-5 verses aloud, or you could have everyone read quietly on their own, before discussing together.
